Joyous Study Tour
Seasons change and lost time is never. Unknowingly we greeted the hot stuffy summer days under the scorching sun. Nonetheless, eleven students and I already forgot the sweltering weather. Instead, what we had was excitement, stimulation and yearning, because each and every one of us held in hand the boarding pass to San Francisco, USA, which marked the beginning of the 16-day Summer Camp in the United States of America.
Perhaps it was the first time that a great many students had ever taken a plane ride, or maybe it was the first time that they had boarded the huge Boeing 747-400 series. Even perhaps it was the first time that many students had taken an airplane to cross the strait during an almost 12-hour, 10,000-kilo journey. Therefore, students were all abnormally excited, some of whom even complained that they did not get the window seats. Fortunately, I got my window seat. Initially, I did not feel lucky to sit by the window. Instead, I thought it troublesome to go in and out. However, I changed my mind when the plane got steady and entered the stratosphere. Watching the swirling clouds in violet haze from a thousand meters high above the earth, we gasped the charm of nature in admiration and admired mankind’s wisdom as well. As time went by, the journey was unceasingly cut short. Thus, white clouds turned into sunglow step by step before becoming shiny stars all over again. Afterwards, when the first ray of sunshine illuminated the starry sky, we slowly witnessed glowing rays shine in all directions, which was quite a magnificent scene!
After landing in San Francisco, we had lunch together. It was 1.30 P.M. local time then. However, due to excitement or jet lag, we did not feel tired the slightest after nearly 30 hours’ flight without regular sleep. On the contrary, we were full of pep when touring the Lombard Street, the most curving and steepest street in the world. Meanwhile, we accumulated knowledge while enjoying the beautiful scenery. What’s more, we rambled over the Fisherman’s Wharf, listening to the playing and singing of roadside artists. Furthermore, we took the cruise to smell the sea breeze, reviewing the history of the Golden Gate Bridge on the capacious Pacific Ocean in addition to feeling mankind’s greatness and the significance of perseverance.
In summary, we finished our dinner insensibly. Though 8 P.M., it was still broad daylight. However, every one of us was quite sleepy. Although we were in a foreign country, I believed all of us would sleep soundly tonight. The first day’s study tour being over, tomorrow we would pay a visit to University of California, Berkeley, the most renowned and top public university in the USA as well as ‘the Father of Silicon Valley’ --Stanford University. I firmly believed this informative tour would not only bring us visual impact, but also shape our soul in the meantime.
